The Seams of the City

The Pere Pruna Civic Center presents “The Seams of the City,” an exhibition by the artist Gerard Palomeras, which revolves around the adjoining walls of Barcelona, a constant element in a city that is always in the process of making and unmaking.

In the city of Barcelona, from any point, any angle, or any view, a sea of adjoining walls spreads out, accompanying both the humblest areas and the wealthiest, including the most important monuments. These adjoining walls are often hated, considered ugly, and perceived as a sign of poorly resolved urbanism. Gerard Palomeras proposes thinking of them as symbols of transformation and vitality, as a reminder that a city can never be finished. That is why the artist calls them ‘the seams of the city,’ because they are the marks of where it is stitched and unstitched as the city grows, changes shape, needs new uses, or seeks new boundaries.

The exhibition will be accompanied by two activities. First, on Thursday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m., the exhibition will be inaugurated with a guided tour led by the artist. Second, on Thursday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m., there will be an artistic tour of the Sarrià – Sant Gervasi neighborhood to detect the adjoining walls and understand what they tell us. The exhibition will be on view from June 27 to July 26 at the Pere Pruna Civic Center.
