Rosehouse
Opening Spetember 7th, 19:00
“Rosehouse” exhibition emerges not merely as an art project but as a poignant declaration of resistance. Originally unveiled in Budapest, Aachen, Berlin and Istanbul, this compelling exhibition now finds its way to Barcelona, a city renowned for its vibrant celebration of diversity. In this new context, “Rosehouse” seeks to deepen our understanding of identity and political struggle, challenging us to reflect on the historical and contemporary battles faced by LGBTQ+ individuals.
The exhibition’s imagery, laden with historical symbolism and sensual undertones, serves as a stark counterpoint to the present-day political climate under President Erdogan.
Today, Turkey faces a chilling regression in LGBTQ+ rights, with Erdogan’s administration intensifying its campaign against the community. Recent governmental rhetoric likens LGBTQ+ rights to a destructive force, portraying them as a threat to traditional values and social stability. This has manifested in increasingly hostile policies, legal loopholes that permit discrimination, and a broader climate of fear and repression. In response, “Rosehouse” stands as a powerful act of defiance, urging viewers to recognize the stark contrast between the empire’s enlightened past and the oppressive present. By reintroducing this project in Barcelona, we are reminded of the urgent need to confront these injustices and to support those fighting for their right to exist openly and authentically. Through this exhibition, “Rosehouse” not only recounts a story of resistance but also calls upon us to champion the values of equality, dignity, and human rights in an era of growing intolerance.
