Residual Bodies

Residual Bodies

Residual Bodies is an exhibition that explores the tangible consequences of digital mediation on human forms and identities. Through physically materialized images, created by combining digital processes with traditional manual techniques, the show invites viewers to reflect on the traces technology leaves in our perception of the human body and identity.

Kutay Cengil presents a series of meticulously detailed images, initially generated through complex digital sculptures. Printed on high-quality physical supports, these works display dissected hybrid anatomies—seamlessly merging organic textures with biomechanical structures. Each piece reveals a carefully constructed tension between the carnal and the synthetic, embodying a tactile yet alien aesthetic. The physical medium intensifies the encounter with these digital anatomies, inviting viewers to contemplate the permanence and fragility of bodies caught between natural evolution and artificial alteration.

Gabriel Lecup offers an evocative counterpoint through his relief prints, created using traditional printmaking techniques to reinterpret digitally generated images. His series, inspired by early visual representations of sign language and reimagined through distortions produced by contemporary artificial intelligence, is hand-engraved on parchment. These works highlight the imperfections, distortions, and ambiguities of digital representation, underscoring a critical exploration of identity, communication, and the human condition in an increasingly digitalized society. His approach restores a tactile immediacy to questions of technological representation and cognitive distortion.
