Overview

Italian artist Francesco Biondo is taking part in the first stage of España Tour Biennale 26/27, an exhibition project organized by Fondazione Effetto Arte. The initiative brings a selection of Italian artists to three Spanish cities: Barcelona, Madrid, and Valencia.

Biondo will present 2 luglio 1992 – Oltre la deriva delle parole (2 July 1992 – Beyond the Drift of Words), a 2018 acrylic painting on MDF from his series La Storia Dipinta (Painted History). The work pays tribute to Sicilian writer Vincenzo Consolo.

The title refers to 2 July 1992, when Consolo received Italy's prestigious Premio Strega for his novel Nottetempo, casa per casa. Biondo takes this moment in literary history as a starting point to reflect on the role of writing in preserving memory, and on Consolo's commitment to maintaining an independent, critical voice.

FrikiFish Note

The exhibition takes place at MEAM, tucked into a historic palace in Barcelona’s El Born neighborhood. It's a lovely setting for discovering artists from beyond the local scene.
