Urban art will take over the heart of Paral·lel with the creation of a large-format mural that will reclaim the historical memory of Teatro Talia, an iconic space for the Sant Antoni neighborhood. The work will be carried out by the renowned Barcelona-based artist Elisa Capdevila, who will be painting during the last two weeks of October, in a project curated and produced by Street Art Barcelona.
A community project for the Sant Antoni neighborhood
The Talia mural will not only be a large-scale artistic intervention but also the result of a collaborative effort by several neighborhood organizations, grouped together under the platform Sant Antoni recuperem el Talia. The aim of this initiative is to bring life to the two blank walls of the abandoned lot where Teatro Talia once stood, a cultural landmark for the community, and to highlight the historical and cultural memory of the theater.
This 785-square-meter area, now empty, will be transformed into a new cultural space. The mural, measuring about 24 meters in height and 23 meters in length, will be located on the side of the building at number 102, Avinguda del Paral·lel.
Elisa Capdevila and the meaning behind the mural
Elisa Capdevila, born in 1994, is a Barcelona-based artist with a solid career in urban art, recognized for her ability to capture intimacy and everyday moments on large surfaces. With a realistic and detailed style, Capdevila tackles deeply human themes, and on this occasion, she will focus on the moment of the “end of the performance.” The mural will depict an actress removing her makeup after finishing a show, a gesture filled with symbolism that connects with the history of Talia and its permanent closure.
Additionally, the piece will be developed from a feminist perspective, highlighting the role of women both in the theater scene and in the community’s fight to reclaim the space. This theme was chosen after a participatory process with neighborhood organizations, including collaborative workshops that shaped the mural’s narrative.
