OCEANS – Venadito Art Biennial
OCEANS is the 5th edition of the Venadito Art Biennial. In this edition, we highlight the environmental effects generated by the textile industry on aquatic ecosystems. With the collaboration of DEPANA, the Museum of Natural Sciences of Granollers, and 24 artists.
The OCEANS are the great repositories of our waste and pollutants. We are destroying the planet at an alarming rate. Annihilating marine life, poisoning its inhabitants and its waters. Pollution and waste spills into rivers, seas, and oceans are among the causes of the disappearance of thousands of marine species and the suffering of many others due to ineffective policies and a careless and irresponsible society.
We have the moral and ethical obligation to do everything possible to reverse this situation. Awareness of textile reuse and recycling can contribute to reducing the pollution generated by this sector. The effects of ‘fast fashion’ production not only have environmental impacts, but low-cost manufacturing and outsourcing also have a strong social impact.
The exhibition aims to impact the public and make them aware that the textile industry is the second most polluting in the world. More than 92 million tons of waste are produced and over 1.5 trillion tons of water are consumed annually.
