Through the Eyes of Escher
The exhibition presents the works of Maurits Cornelis Escher, one of the most famous graphic artists in the world.
With more than 200 original works, the exhibition offers a retrospective of the enigmatic sketches and paradoxical designs of this author, beginning with his first realistic engravings and drawings inspired by the nature and landscape of Italy. The exhibition further explores the work of M. C. Escher around tessellation and the transformation of figures that illustrate how metamorphosis became a unique element of his art, combining fantasy and geometry. In developing his mathematical research, Escher created inexhaustible images executed with incredible attention to detail and precision, with the representation of infinity in his most famous masterpieces.
Still today, the international scientific community praises the work of M. C. Escher as a symbol of the interrelation between art and science. Although his knowledge of mathematics was primarily visual and intuitive, Escher played with architecture and perspective to invent infinite and enveloping worlds of wonders.
The artistic work of M. C. Escher continues to fascinate millions of people around the world and inspire generations of artists, architects, mathematicians, musicians and designers, admirers of his playful fantasies and his fascinating constructions.
