Character and Mask-Making with Nora Schmel
November 8 @ 8:00 am - November 9 @ 5:00 pm€15
On the 8th and 9th of November, participate in this artistic and politically empowering workshop by Hungarian artist Nora Schmel.
Character and Mask-Making
At this two-day workshop, we study the feminist activist artists, The Guerilla Girls, and make our own characters and masks for a hypothetical activist scenario. The aim of this workshop is to get familiar with alternative ways of activism and learn how action for change influences creative activities or the other way round. We’ll broaden our perspective on historical moments by this anonymous female group fighting sexism and racism and look at the symbols behind their gorilla masks.
The workshop is open to all gender and age groups and to anyone who is interested in learning more about female artists with a creative approach. No additional skills required. We will be using provided paper and paint based materials, however, feel free to add your own elements if you wish so.
Followed by the presentation and discussion, we individually create fictional advocates to support our motivations and design faces responding to our own point of view!
8th November 18h-20h30 / Presentation & discussion, creating fictional activist characters
9th November 15h-19h / Mask-making workshop

About the INSPIRED BY FEMALE ARTISTS’ WORKSHOP SERIES:
In this workshop series, we look into and get inspired by artworks made by female artists. The aim is not only to draw focus on and learn about women in art but also explore concepts, techniques and methods that these artists work with. At each workshop, we focus on one artist or artist group and get our brains and hands working.
